Meeting the New Year

the word of the shepherd

St. John ChrysostomIf you wish to benefit from the New Year, do this: at the end of the year, thank your Master for bringing you into this cycle of years. Be contrite in your heart, count the years of your life, and say to yourself: the days run and go away, the years are ending, we have already completed most of our journey, but what good have we done? Are we really leaving here without all, without any virtue? Judgement is at the doors, the rest of our lives are approaching old age...
So, whether we pray or fast, accuse or forgive, praise or blame, go in or go out, sell or buy, remain silent or speak, or whatever else we do, let us do everything for the glory of God... so that, doing, speaking and undertaking all things for the glory of God, we may receive from Him glory and power, both here and even after our departure from here.
