What does Baptism consist of?
Why are godparents (godfather and godmother) present at Baptism?
It is to make a solemn promise before God Himself that they will raise the baptized person in the true faith and piety and strengthen them in the Christian life.
Why is the person dressed being baptized in a white shirt?
As a sign that they are pure from sin.
Why is a cross placed around their neck?
As a sign that they can be saved by faith in Jesus Christ, crucified on the cross.
